Thinking My Way To Success.
Submitted by: David S
SwedenI am a married 30 year old father of two beautiful daughters. I have a background in music and toured around Europe with my metal band when I was younger. Now, I work full time with Visual Effects on some of the biggest productions in the world, like Star Wars, The Mandalorian, and Stranger Things.
As a kid, I always felt that I saw the world differently than the people around me. While my friends and I played hide and seek and I was hiding, I could just get stuck watching a flower and adoring its beauty while my friends were running around fully immersed in the game. I loved walking outside and just finding a place where I could watch the stars late at night as a teenager.
I started writing music early on and dreamt of a career as a musician. Every day, before I was even aware of the law of attraction, I saw myself as a rockstar. So, for the majority of my youth, I spent time learning to sing and playing the guitar. Then all of a sudden we wrote our first record deal and released our first album worldwide. Following this we went on pretty big European tours and ended up writing another record deal with Gain, Sony Music. The next album was released and we did some more touring.
The weird thing is that I lost my passion for touring as soon as my first daughter arrived. Everything fun with music became irrelevant and I didn’t want to spend more time on the road. I was done and wanted to pursue another dream – VFX.
VFX was really something I dreamt about even before started music, but the industry wasn’t really mature enough in Sweden and I could definitely not pay for the hardware required to do 3D rendering. As a grown up I decided to aim for a career in VFX side by side with family life. At this point, I also had discovered The Secret and the power of the law of attraction. I knew that my music career had been boosted a lot only with the power of my mind and now I intended to use this power in order to succeed in VFX. Said and done!
I bought my equipment and visualized myself working for the big studios in the high-end VFX industry. I wanted to work at big shows, like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and so on. I began my journey on my own. I watched tutorials online and practiced each and every day for 2 years before I became a student at a VFX school in Stockholm. For 2.5 years I continued to visualize my future and aimed to get a job at Sweden’s biggest VFX company. In my mind, I had already succeeded with this and when it was time to look for internships, that vision became physically true. I got several offers from big studios, but I had already decided to go for the one and only company I aimed for.
Today, my vision is my daily life. I have performance based work hours. I can decide when I work basically and I can work wherever I want with my laptop. All I need is the internet and a connection to the company’s servers. I am not rich. But I am free from working at a 9-5 job. I have more time with my family and I’m working with something creative. And for that, I am grateful.
