Teaching The Kids To Be Grateful.
Submitted by: Emily
KansasGrandma of 4 wonderful kids.
Back a couple of years ago before my daughter started driving, I would pick her up and take her to pay her bills. This particular day it had snowed about 2 inches the night before. Since I needed to go to the ATM in front of her apartment building which was less than a city block away from her, I asked her if she could just meet me there. She was very hateful and told me how they had not even bladed her road and she did not want to walk in the snow. My first thought was “You ungrateful child!”
Fast forward to that night. I had spent the day trying to figure out how I had raised such an ungrateful child, and what I could do differently with the grandchildren that I was raising.
That night at dinner I told the kids, 8, 9, 4, and 2 years old, that it was time for me to teach them about being grateful. After our dinner prayer, we take turns telling each other what we are grateful for, and we have to add something new each day.
Now, 2 years later, we still do our gratitude exercise, and the kids are really starting to learn that there is so much to be grateful for, that our attitudes affect our moods, and that by just being grateful we can change our lives.
I want to sincerely say thank you To Rhonda and her team for The Secret and to my best friend who understood that I needed this in my life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
