Making a Decision

ChicagoI work in Human Resources for Higher Education. I'm also a Yoga Instructor, Singer and Painter... Single mom above all.
My boyfriend decided to break-up with me the night before a very important out of town meeting I had with my boss. I never thought I could experience such devastation! My boss told me to read The Secret a while back, but I did not get it until I saw the book at the gift shop at the airport on the way back to Chicago. At the same time, I was searching for a home to purchase and had been doing so for a very long period of time. As a requirement for my job I need to live in the City where I work in, which is the City of Chicago! Needless to say, the housing market here is very expensive, regardless of how low real estate prices are now.
I had in mind the style of home I wanted: A brick Georgian, with a fireplace, with room for yoga and painting, plus a basement for my daughter to hang-out with her friend… and this had to be for $250,000 or less. Yeah, right, my Realtor said first. But, she also had read The Secret, so we decided to change the focus…
One day, after looking at house #60, I said, that’s it, I’m just going to look at the houses that I really see myself in, even if they’re way over budget. I went home and did a “spring cleaning” and kept visualizing myself in my new home. I even arranged my room how I wanted the new room to look like. I kept on repeating, thank you for my beautiful new home. That same day, I saw the Suzie Ormen (?) show and she said that if “one” is able to get a house about 100 thousand dollars cheaper than the asking price – that’s the way to shop for a home.
The next morning, we saw a Georgian home for $339,000… and guess what, I just bought it for almost 90 thousand less! When I decided to only focus on what I wanted it all came through within a day!!! Yes, I do have a fireplace, space for yoga & art, and a basement!
