Furthering The Insight.

VirginiaI am one of the luckiest women in the world.
After reading The Secret, The Power and The Magic to learn more and more about this wonderful thing called the law of attraction, I still have trouble in some areas. For instance, I would be in a wonderful state, and everything would be going perfectly, but little by little, things would eventually go downhill again. After much reflection, I found that some of the things I believe are at the root of my trouble. Certainly, it isn’t the same for everyone, but perhaps there is a person or two who could benefit from this.
I noticed that small things constantly come to me with no effort at all. Some of the higher desires, not so much. Oddly enough, a book found me. It was a Christian book that has helped me in a big way since I started trying to find the meaning behind my trouble. The book was ‘Beyond Ourselves’ by Catherine Marshall.
I recommend reading it, but one key thing from the book helped tremendously. An early chapter discusses the Prayer of Relinquishment. It suggests asking and considering the matter closed. Don’t sweat the small stuff is exactly what I was doing, but I still sweated the stuff I thought of on a larger scale.
With money, for example, I would do my best to make it work when I did not have enough, and I was scared to just leave it in God’s hands. I found that when I stopped checking my account and started making an effort to just relax about it, money started landing in my lap. What really sent me over the edge was a story in ‘Beyond Ourselves.’ I don’t have the book to quote it and it’s only a small portion of so much you can learn from the book. It goes something like this:
A boy takes a broken toy to his father. The little boy waits patiently for the father to fix it. Time goes by, but the boy waits patiently, knowing full well that the father can do his job and do it perfectly. The toy gets fixed, and the little boy is happy.
On the other hand, a boy takes a broken toy to his father. The father tries his best to fix it, but the boy is impatient, insisting on getting in the way. He tells the father how to fix it his way until finally, the boy grabs the toy and insists he can just fix it himself. The father isn’t doing it right or fast enough.
So which boy would you be? For me, I was getting in the way all the time. Every book I have read suggested this same thing. Perhaps I just needed more time to really absorb it. Catherine Marshall’s words seem to seep in the way I needed them to. I am now doing my best not to sweat the big stuff. I go about my day, stay out of my head, focus on the now, enjoy my surroundings as best I can, and relax, “Father” has it all under control. I ask for it and I now wait patiently.
Before I go, had I not read The Secret first, none of these books or stories that I have read since would have made nearly as much sense. I owe a great deal to the teachings of all The Secret books. I have learned so much, and despite the setbacks I have experienced in my life, my life continues to improve.
Good luck in your journey through life. I hope this is as helpful to you as it was to me.
