My family was staying with my mom at her house and we wanted to buy our own home rather than continue paying rent to someone else. We wanted to have our house within walking distance of my graduate school but, after looking at houses in the area, found that we simply didn’t make enough (my husband and I had both just returned to grad school). One morning, I went to Quaker Meeting for Worship. While I sat there in silence, I imagined us getting a cute, two bedroom home near my school. I imagined it being affordable for us and also within walking distance of my son’s school. I was trying to put out this intention to the universe because I had had it work before with finding a job. After Meeting, we always have time for announcements. A woman stood up and said, “Many of you know that our son was in a car accident last month. We were left several of his local properties in his will and we need to sell them. If anyone knows someone who wants to buy a house, talk to me after Meeting.” I spoke with her a few minutes later and she told me that one of the houses was four blocks from my grad school (@9 to my son’s school), two bedrooms, with a loft and they could sell it to us for about $32,000. That price is unheard of for a home these days. We literally found our new home within about half an hour of putting out the request. (While it was tragic that this couple lost their son, the fact that we were willing and able to purchase one of the homes right away helped them too- they had so much to deal with right then.)
